Denis McHugh

Denis McHugh is the CEO for MUFG Securities Americas Inc. (MUSA).

He joined MUFG in 2022 as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) for MUSA, MUFG Securities (Canada), Ltd., and Market Risk Management Officer for MUFG Americas Holdings Corporation and assumed the role of International CRO for MUSA the following year.

Denis has more than 35 years of experience in both market risk management and capital and emerging markets at global financial institutions. Previously, he served as the Enterprise Head of Market Risk Management for BMO Financial Group, where he was also Capital Markets CRO. He also held the position of Global Head of Market, Counterparty, and Liquidity Risk Management at Commerzbank AG. Most recently, Denis served as Global Head of Trading and Treasury Operations at the Bank of Montreal, where he was responsible for the oversight and implementation of market risk and liquidity platforms used for steering the bank’s risks, defining the risk appetite within those risk stripes, and ensuring compliance with the multiple changing regulatory regimes wherein the institutions transact.

Prior to transitioning to risk management, Denis held leadership positions overseeing markets, sales and trading, and structured finance businesses at firms that include Fortis Bank, ABN AMRO Bank, and Rabobank International.

He holds a B.A. in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.
