Building a Better Future for Our People
Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is ingrained in our culture and core values. We understand that diversity of thought and application of diverse ideas and the varied backgrounds and perspectives of our employees will help us get there. We are creating an environment where colleagues, clients, and community members from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed and supported. We believe that teams of people with different views have richer discussions, take on new and different ideas, and have greater success at solving complex problems to best serve our clients and thrive as a global company.
As one of the world’s largest financial institutions, we’re committed to incorporating Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) into every aspect of our culture and business. Our overall commitment is articulated through a focus on culture, workforce, marketplace, and community, and colleagues at every level within our organization play a critical role in advancing DEI efforts.

DEI Learning & Development
To support the personal and professional DEI journeys of all our colleagues, everyone has access to award-winning, best-in-class tools and resources that range from self-paced eLearnings to experiential learning and cohort development programs. These tools and resources are intended to help enhance cultural competence acumen, understand the many dimensions of diversity, actively create equity, and be consistent and intentional about conscious inclusion in every engagement.
Empowering Our Communities
We’re committed to improving the social welfare of the communities in which we live and work through donations to charitable organizations, volunteerism, and sponsorships. In 2021, we contributed nearly $23 million in philanthropic support to expand access to opportunities and help propel communities toward a brighter future. Colleagues played an important role, too, volunteering almost 51,000 hours in 2021 in support of worthy causes.
A Diverse Marketplace
We’re committed to meeting the evolving needs of our clients by developing innovative products and services that serve diverse businesses and communities across our global footprint.
Attracting and Retaining Top Talent
We strive to create a culture of equity and belonging to attract, develop, and retain diverse top talent and improve representation at all levels.
The Power of Partnership
When it comes to DEI at MUFG, everyone plays a part. That’s why we built a strong foundation of teams that partner with colleagues across the business to enable and inspire greater inclusion and diversity:
Executive and Business Unit DCP Councils
Our Executive DEI, Culture, and Philanthropy (DCP) Council, comprised of CEO Kevin Cronin and business unit leaders, partners with our Business Unit DCP Councils, made up of groups of employees who help advance DCP initiatives. These teams collaborate through measurable actions that enhance MUFG’s culture and employee experience, marketplace, and community stewardship.
Centers of Excellence
Our Centers of Excellence across the business and our corporate functions drive diverse and inclusive change, advance equity, and fuel ambition for our people, clients, and communities we serve across all facets of our business.
Employee Resource Networks (ERNs)
Open to all employees, our ERNs focus on a variety of cultural backgrounds and life experiences, including race, generations, veteran status, gender, and sexual orientation. Members voluntarily come together to reinforce the company’s values by promoting professional networking opportunities, encouraging personal development, functioning as a company resource, and providing cultural insights.
Awards and Recognition
When it comes to our commitment to building a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive MUFG, everyone plays a part. We’re proud of our achievements and hold ourselves and our partners accountable for helping build a strong network of teams that partner across our business to enable and inspire a greater sense of belonging.
